Can you see it? When I saw this image during a Google search I realised there was something "wrong", something missing... Were was that classic DM Records "CAUTION MEGA LOW BASS May Damage Speakers" banner?? You know, this one:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So after some more Googling that night it turned out this was (I know, yet another) Japanese release! Released by Dolphin Entertainmetn co, Ltd Japan. The same guys that brought us the "Feel The Bass" series. They did have a warning also, on the OBI:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dolphin also did the "Old School Players" CD (maybe they did more but these are the ones I know off). I know we are all different, but I think they really look nice with the OBI strips... and the extra DM stickers ;-)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I also have anohter Japanese DM release; "Bass Sound Off U.S.A. Volume 3". This is not a Dolphin release however but AMERICANA.

 

I actually haven't opened this one yet, but what seem to be the major difference with the Dolphin releases is that the Americana CD seems to be the original US release. The Dolphin CD's have Japanese liner notes and a new catalog number:

 

While the Americana release still has the original US catalog number. So I think they simply added an OBI strip without doing more work on it...

Felix The Cat - Mixed By DJ Ameken

 Not your average bass cover...

 

But the music is!! One would not expect, but there is some Newtown, some Neurodisc and a little bit of DM. I was hoping it would have been really "mixed" like the title said, but it's not actually like that. It's more a "cut and paste" compilation. That was rather disappointing.

The interesting part of this CD are the tracks by "Scorpio". No clue who is behind it, maybe DJ Ameken himself? But they are not that bad at all:

 

What is also very interesting is that in the tray we receive free drawing lessons. I have always wanted to draw Felix but could never figure out how to do it!  Thank you DJ Ameken and Bad News Records (y)

That's why the cover looks so horrible. The color that is, because the cover was designed by Deryck Ragoonanan for ImagExpress Corporation. But the black and white image that I posted was taken from the Lithuanian cassette released by Zarazza. Mira:

This release came as a nice surprise! Some of the tracks are so hard they sound like Florida breaks, almost early rave-like. Listen to Digicom International!

I seriously doubt it there is an actual "D.J. Bass Syndicate" out there who had anything to do with this cd. Just another DM Records compilation released with mandatory artwork from Deryck Ragoonanan to get more money in the DM bank account (hey, can we blame them?).

Bass Transmission - Ultimate Bass Experience

Not a DM Records release

Because that's what it looks like, but it's actually a Pandisc album written, produced and engineered by Robert Bartko & Ivan Kopas. Mastererd at Fullersound. The reason why it looks like a DM release is because the cover design was done by Deryck Ragoonanan of ImagEpress Corp., Miami, Florida. Now this is a style of bass music that I really like. There's enough bass for the woofers but it's also very musical. Perfect to listen to in the car...

I can hear you thinking: "The Staff at Debonaire Productions, Inc? So this must be an IBP release?".
No it's not. The sound and the artwork would make you think so but this is actually a Streetbeat Records release, with illustrations from Deryck Ragoonanan and art direction by ImagExpress, Miami, FL ... (these are the same people responsible for most of the DM Records artwork)

Bass Syndicate - Cyberbass-Virtual Reality

Produced & engineered by Bass 305

Not a world news I guess... isn't every bass album from DM Records produced & engineered by Bass 305??? Also as usual the illustration is done by Deryck Ragoonanan and the design by ImagExpress Corporation. This is the label's 3rd bass release but for sure not my favorite. Not saying it's BAD, but there's no track that really stands out. Take a listen for yourself:

Smart people overthere in Belgium. At least they realised that "Bass" is a real musical genre in itself, and they gave it a volume in their collection of dance cd's.

OK, given, all tracks are from DM Records releases, so maybe not the most representative for bass, but still a good release. Here's my 2 favorite tracks:

Bass 305 - Digital Bass

The science of sound

If you didn't know yet, this is a real classic. The first release by Bass 305, the first release by DM Records, and being from 1992, it's also one of the earlier car audio bass cd's! Visit the Bassipedia for more on that subject.

These are some of my favorite tracks on this release:

They must have been busy moving out of their offices during the release of this cd. Take a look at the date and address on the inside of the booklet; 1992, Pompano Beach

but by the time they printed the backcover, it was 1993, and they had moved to Ft. Lauderdale. The things you learn here...
