Bass Mekanik - Bass Trap

Pump the power!

It's always an exciting time for us bassheads when the Bass Mekanik drops a new album!! This time he's going for the trap sound, but as a veteran bass producer there's no doubt about it he crosses all styles and just gives us another booming bass album!!

This is the title track which really goes for the trap sound ofcourse...

But this one right here is like the follow up to "I rock bass" and has more of a dubstep influence imo...

A crunk bomb...

And some of that real BASS only the Mekanik can drop...

In other words: just go to the tunes thing HERE or to bandcamp for the mp3 or lossless versions and GET IT, OK? You won't regret it, you have my guarantee...

I also heard from the Bass Mekanik himself that a highly limited cd edition will be released soon! Can't wait for that one. I will keep you posted as soon as I find out more!

UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE

The limited cd edition HAS been released. It was for sale at the Bass Mekanik booth at SBN 2014!

Hope you can find a way to get your hands on one just like I did!

DJ Droppin - Catastrophic Bass

14 Full Strength Tracks

I know it's not thursday but here's a throwback for you anyhow; DJ Droppin's debut on Bass Mekanik records! I was listening to this cd again today and I realised 2 things. 1st off all I realised how time flies. I remember this album being released like it was a few months ago, but actually the release date on Bass Mekanik's bandcamp says 22 march 2011! 2nd thing I realised (or should I say remembered) is that this album is a real CLASSIC! DJ Droppin together with Bassotronics became the first of a range of new artists being promoted by Bass Mekanik, in order to keep car audio bass alive.

"DJ DROPPIN is an alias of Rob Grimes, an Oregon based electronic music producer who is creating a new Bass style influenced by some of the classic sounds and creators of electro & bass, including BASS 305, TECHMASTER P.E.B., and BASS MEKANIK"

The sound on this album is very minimal, spacy at times, but musical enough to keep you interested during the full length of the songs, which can span up to almost 6 minutes.
Here's a good example of the minimalism:

Spacy!

More minimalism, pure woofer food!

Yep, if you remember this album, just play it again will you? And if you don't remember or never knew it, it's your lucky day because you just got to know some great music...

GO TO BANDCAMP! SUPPORT THE ARTIST!

(Yes, a little confusing. The artwork on the cd is the same as DJ Droppin's second release "Droppin beats")

Bassotronics - Trap Dis Bass

After his succesfull venture into dubstep with the "Bass-Step" release, Bassotronics aka Bassdroid 808 is giving trap a shot. I guess it will come as no surprise when I tell you he succeeded again. Not all 15 tracks on this release are trap though. We get a nice mix of sounds, all in that classic Bassotronics style ofcourse...

Here's what THEY say on the official Bass Mekanik bandcamp site:

"Bassotronics has the most unique style of all contemporary Bass Producer Artists, and his faithful and ever growing fan base is well aware of this.
His quirky sense of humor combined with massive chunks of bass and beats never fails to deliver the goods, and his new album TRAP DIS BASS is no exception.
"

Need I say more? A few of my favorites:

"I trap the police" (I mainly like that nervous piano like sound starting at 0:43)

"Bass 4 U" (The bass sound reminds me of that Bassadelic classic "Give it to them")

"Don't fail the boom" (Just one of those great melodic bass tracks that always seem to be finished too fast!)

But I'm sure you will pick your own favorites. Just take a listen to the full album, or better yet BUY the full album from bandcamp...

or from the iThing ofcourse https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bass-mekanik-presents-bassotronics/id796923480

Bass Mekanik Vision Fund

Friends, The Bass Mekanik needs help.

That's right! I'm sure many of you grew up listening to the man's music, or used his music to compete, or to show off your system. Or you just enjoyed listening to his music, whatever. Now the man needs your help! Please read this carefully and help out if you can. If you can't, please help spread the message, maybe you reach somebody who can!

The message from Bass Mekanik's gofundme page:

Friends,
The Bass Mekanik needs help.
I need surgery as a last ditch option to save whats left of my eyesight.
I wouldn’t ask if it wasn’t desperately urgent, but it is.
I suffer from a severe form of Glaucoma which has progressed over time to the point that if it can’t be stopped soon I will be blind.
The surgery is $11,000 and not a 100% guarantee, but it’s the only option and my only chance of retaining some workable vision.
I’ve enjoyed great support from the fans over the years and if you’ve ever purchased any Bass Mekanik music I give you my heartfelt thanks, but the music biz is not what it used to be in terms of dollars anymore.
These days I and the crew here at Bass Mekanik Records are mostly in it for the love of Bass, not for the money.
So if you can help I sincerely appreciate it.
Thanks, and keep Boomin!!!

Bass Mekanik - Bass Ballin'

The crunk collection

I wanted to say "this is like a greatest hits collection" but that would not really be true; aren't all the Bass Mekanik's hits great?? I do know one thing: if you're a real Bass Mekanik fan like me, you're gonna want this cd if not only because it's a great addition to your collection. And if you're not the biggest Bass Mekanik fan, but you're looking for a great cd to put your woofers to the test, then you're also gonna want this cd because it IS just that: a booming cd with nothing but hot beats! They were selling like hot cakes from the Bass Mekanik's booth at this year's SBN...

You could also buy the digital version (from iTunes,Beatport,or Junodownload for instance) but the problem is there are only 11 tracks there, while the cd has 17 + a full test section!

Digital tracklist:

CD tracklist:

So that means the digital download doesn't have Pressure and Bass trap (from "Bass trap"),  Beatz a rokn, Six blok bass and Elektro Mekanik (from "808"), Tranquility bass and Rok the planet (from "Kontrol") and Low Problems (from "King of bass").

BUT the cd doesn't have Low roller (from "Kontrol") and Bass ballin lo & slo remix (from "Lowd slowd").

My advice? If you can find the cd, just get that one. You get the cool artwork AND you can still rip it yourself if you need digital files...

Cover Wars Part 5 - Nightmare On Bass Street vs Nightmare On Bass Street

That would be

VS

So what's the difference? ... "Just another reissue" you might say... But it's not. The first cover is from the 1993 Innovative Bass Productions release (better known as IBP). This was the first cd to be released on that classic label and was composed by none other than DJ Billy E. It contains 9 VERY bass heavy tracks with titles that leave nothing to the imagination, like "Ultimate Bass Scare", "Burnt Voice Coils" and "Fifty Thousand Watts". Listen to the opening track "In Control":

You can still buy this cd from IBP themselves by clicking THIS link.

The second cover on the other hand belongs to a 2009 digital only Bass Mekanik Records release. It has the same title, was also produced by DJ Billy E, but this one has 11 tracks and is not just a reissue. The 11 tracks are compiled from all Billy E's IBP releases, being "Nightmare On Bass Street" 1 and 2, "Toxic Bass", "The Bass Is Out There" and "Bass Electronica". Interesting that they didn't mention those last 2 cd's in their promo text...

DJ BILLY E is one of Bass music’s original pioneers. Back in the early days of bass, before he actually became well known as DJ BILLY E, he released three very influential but now hard to find albums, NIGHTMARE ON BASS STREET 1 & 2 and TOXIC BASS. Now available for the first time in digital download format are the best of these three albums in a new 2 album release; NIGHTMARE ON BASS STREET PARTS 1 & 2. Make no mistake, this is pure old school Bass, raw and in your face, with no apologies and a must have for the true Bass fan. Key tracks are BREAK IT DOWN, NOW HEAR DIS and DRUMS & RHYTHM.

They did the same thing for "Nightmare On Bass Street II - He's back", which was originally released on the IBP label in 1994 (IBP0006) with 14 tracks.

And later released digital only on Bass Mekanik Records as a DJ Billy E compilation.

I don't think there are any winners here, since they are all booming, so I suggest you just get all of them...

Bass Mekanik - Kontrol

You have heard about it, now you can really hear it; the new Bass Mekanik album has arrived!

KONTROL is a return to the classic techno bass sound that BASS MEKANIK is best known for. The sound is loud, clean and aggressive with an overall Techno edge featuring Dubstep flavors on several tracks.

Released 06 June 2012

Here's one of my favorite tracks. Go to bandcamp and buy the full album!

Bass Mekanik - Power

More bass trap!

So I was looking online for a place to download the new Bassotronics album "Woofer wrecker" and to my surprise I found out Bass Mekanik also had a new release out!!! What a surprise! I've always been a huge fan so sorry Bassotronics, but I did check this release first ^^

As expected the follow-up to "Bass Trap" contains more trap beats but ofcourse it's not "just trap". That unique Bass Mekanik sound always shines through in everything they produce! We'll have to depend on junodownload.com for some previews:

Nice right? Alright then, you know what to do now: Buy - Buy - Buy! ^^

Funny; junodownload labels this album "balearic/downtempo"! "Downtempo" ok, but I still don't see anybody play this kind of stuff in Ibiza...

Bass Launch - Sounds Of The Universe

Been waiting for this one!

I personally really like this kind of sound. "The new era of bass" was in heavy rotation for many moons in my car, so I'm excited to hear more of Bass Launch! Here's what the official promo says on Bass Launch's bandcamp page:

Bass Launch returns with their best album yet, the songs are a step forward in production and arrangement and the sound mix is also improved, with a clean well balanced soundscape that draws the listener into their Bass styled vision of the Universe. The album is loaded with low and slow versions of each song.

Bass Mekanik - Jazz

When Bass meets Jazz

This is what you get; another outstanding production by the one and only Bass Mekanik! Yes, it's jazz, but the Mekanik made sure there is enough boom dropped in the mix for your speakers... Yes, it's jazz, but you still hear that sound only the Mekanik can provide. The songs never get repetitive and the music just keeps bringing new elements... You know what, just check it out yourself, you won't be disappointed...

Bass 2000 - Mission 1

Elevator bass

That's how I always think of this kind of bass. Now I don't mean this in a negative way, because I play this style A LOT myself, especially when in my car. But there is something about it, I don't know, you can play the songs a hundred times and it's like you can just keep playing them. Not because they are SO great, but because you also don't really get tired of them, just like elevator music, but with a lot of bass added! It just keeps playing while your mind is busy with other things...

Hear what I mean? Easy listening...

Sometimes a little more uptempo ofcourse...

So tracks 1 thru 12 are written, produced, arranged and orchestrated by Robert Bartko and Ivan Kopas under a variety of aliases like Bass Enigma, Bass Unlimited, Bass Addiction, Bass Factory 808, Bass Transmission and Bass Apocalypse.

The remaining 4 tracks are bonus remixes like Bass Mekanik's "Feel the music" competition mix and Bass Trip's "Ozone" trip hop bass mix...

And the artwork? Hahaaa... do you see it?? Ofcourse: Deryck Ragoonan for ImagExpress, Miami, Fl.!

Bass Boom

 US and Euro BASS trax

A nice series for a collector this one... Why? Because the artwork is quality, there are 4 volumes to collect, but mainly because it was releases on Edel Records from Finland. A country not commonly associated with bass music! Seems they used to have an organization like IASCA named FASCA, Finnish AutoSound Challenge Association. If we translate the Wikipedia on FASCA we can see why only Bass Boom 1 has their logo on the backcover:

"Fasca (Finnish AutoSound Challenge Association) was the only official Finnish support organization for car audio and AutoSound competition, founded in 1992. Fasca's purpose was to promote and support car audio hobbies and public awareness. The main activity was AutoSound competitions, in which enthusiasts competed against each other within the framework of jointly agreed rules.

Fasca’s story ended sometime after the mid-2000s, the website disappeared in 2008. The reason for the dissolution of the organization was the ambiguity in the use of money and other internal matters.

Today, Finland's official car hi-fi umbrella organization is EMMA Finland."

Bass Boom was released in  2000, Bass Boom 2 in 2002, Bass Boom 3 in 2003 and Bass Boom 4 in... no, NOT 2004! In 2007.

As you could read on the cover, each volume of Bass Boom has US and Euro bass trax. Personally I didn't enjoy any of the Euro trax; hard style, happy house, not my thing. The US trax however were supplied by Pandisc so that is always great news! Bass Mekanik fans will want these in their collection...

Enjoy the artwork and the music!
